“Thank You” Instead of “I Want”

It’s time to select Christmas books for our favorite toddlers. This year, we have a book with text by Amy Parker, A Christmas Prayer. She wrote a simple story about two children who make a Nativity set out of their toys. As they build it, they thank God for each one of His Christmas gifts.

Marijan Ramljak’s illustrations for A Christmas Prayer set a mood of quiet enjoyment as the children make their own manger scene and the parents look on. The colors sooth the eye. The children look whimsical and the scenes show their creative play.

I will give a copy of A Christmas Prayer to my littlegrandson, this year. My daughter may find that he will enjoy this story at bedtime. Maybe it will help him relax and think about thanking God for the gifts He gave. His big brother will teach him soon enough how to say “I want” at Christmas time.
