The Holy Bible, International Children’s Bible

I have difficulty in remembering how much of the Bible I understood as a nine-year-old child. I suppose that most of my concepts came from bedtime stories and Sunday School lessons. I vividly remember the day I received my first New Testament. It had a black paper cover and the text was the King James Version.

That was over 50 years ago and a lot has changed about Bibles in that time. Thomas Nelson Publishers recently released a full-sized Bible with a tough plastic cover that any girl would love to own. The Sequin Bible cover has stylized, multicolored flowers on a pink background. Sewn onto the cover are beaded hearts and a big flower.

The outside attracts a child’s attention, but the text inside will hold it. I read Genesis chapters 1-3, Psalms 91, Isaiah 54, John 3, Romans 8, Hebrews chapters 1 & 2, and a few verses in Revelations. Throughout, I found concepts clearly explained, complicated sentences simplified, and basic theological precepts included. The translators carefully kept the vocabulary at an understandable level for most third grade readers. They avoided rhetorical questions and explained lost customs. If you are considering the purchase of a Bible for a girl in your family for Easter, this is the perfect choice.
